I’m ITCHY! I’m covered bug bites!! Sand Witches as the locals call them. My days of laying in the sun have yielded hundreds of itchy bumps all over my body.
I “heart” the Philippines. I really do! The simplicity of life, the generosity of the people and the gorgeous beaches are amazing. The life underwater is even better than the life on dry ground. The people have almost nothing and I feel like such a spoiled American brat right now!!
We just finished dinner in our beach “hut”. The chicken was almost entirely bones without the pumping of hormones or lack of roaming space our chickens have at home. Leaving us with mostly rice for dinner we’re all still hungry. Our drinks are room temp as ice is hard to come by and our beds and bathroom have gecko poop and ants scattered around.
All that being said, we’re living like royalty here. We have servants that kill and prepare our meals and sweep our floors. We have electricity for goodness sake! Albeit only for 6 hours a day but electricity at all is not common. Speaking of electricity…the voltage conversion combined with the daily strain on our electrics has just killed our last charging device. UHG!! We’re down to 1 phone, 1 kindle and Michaels old iphone 4. I feel like a petulant, spoiled brat yearning for my electronic fix and array of meal choices.
I pray this feeling never leaves me. The feeling of appreciation for what we take for granted every day. I pray I never again lay on my fluffy, clean couch watching 400 channels of nothing while throwing away the food in my fridge (because sushi just sounded better tonight) without a thought to how lucky we are. We are the 1%. We live in the best country on earth, even with all the current political struggles. We have it easier than anyone else! The majority of the world would kill to have one of my worst days. So I’m gonna rub some oil on my skin, fill up on rice, and thank my Lord for His grace and favor that He gave me the life He gave me.
