When we began this journey we each had places we wanted to see. For the kids it was China and Japan, for Michael he wanted to visit family in Germany and travel through SE Asia, for me…I just wanted to travel (anywhere really). We started following blogs of other families who were traveling, talked to avid travelers and relied heavily on our amazing travel agent Patrick Bitzer to guide us. We got out a big map and started putting pins everywhere that we might want to go. Once we had a general outline of where to go and when to arrive there (in order see certain sites or to avoid really bad weather) we just started plugging in flights, hotels/AirBnBs, tours, etc. We originally had planned to plan less and wing it more, but with such a massive undertaking and a budget to adhere to we soon realized that more planning was necessary. Now we’re three weeks away from departure and we’ve got almost everything checked off the list…I hope.
